"Rourkela to get Municipal Corporation status soon" -Badri Narayan Patra, Minister for Urban Development.

According to Secretary,Urban development,Government of Odisha, RDA has received Rs. 60 crores in the last two years. But have we noticed any development that amounts to Rs. 30 crores at least in a year? The MLA LAD gets Rs. 75 lakhs per year hence if we calculate the total LAD amount of Rourkela MLA in the last 5 years i.e. 2004-09 then it will amount to Rs. 3 crores 75 lakhs. Also Ragunathpali MLA LAD will add another 3 crores 75 lakhs rupees thus the total amounting to Rs. 7 crores 50 lakhs. Now the ruling party MLA s have demanded to increase the MLA LAD to Rs. 1 crore a year and at this rate the amount would be Rs. 4 crores in the upcoming years (excluding the initial year). Hence at least 8 crores from MLA LAD to Rourkela City.

WODC is funding some projects amounting to more than Rs. 2 crores in tha Greater Rourkela Area. Also Rourkela Municipality has its own funding , the source and the amount is not known.

So we can take it for granted that at least Rs.100 crores a year is avaialble with the administering authorities to spend on Rourkela City.
