We must develop a culture of Fire Consciousness, said, Mr. S.N. Singh, Managing Director, Rourkela Steel Plant at National Fire Service Day celebrations organized at the Central Fire Station of Rourkela Steel Plant, on 14th April.
Despite the various advancements in technology, the human factor continues to be the greatest cause of fire. We must therefore pledge to develop a right mindset and create a fire accident free steel plant and a fire accident free society, said, MD, RSP.
Mr. Singh inaugurated the celebrations by unfurling the Fire Service flag. A Guard of Honour was then presented to him. Later Mr. Singh along with EDs of various departments, Mr. J Singh, DIG, CISF and other senior officers laid wreaths on the martyrs memorial. It is to be noted that the National Fire Services Day is observed every year in the memory of the brave firemen of the Bombay Fire Brigade who sacrificed their lives on 14th April, 1944.
A pledge on Fire Safety was administered in Oriya by Mr. B.B. Mishra, GM (SE, FS & EE), in Hindi by Mr. S. S. Verma and in English by Mr. V. Nandagopal, followed by release of a booklet on Fire Safety by MD, RSP. Mr. Singh also awarded the winners of the essay and slogan competitions held earlier. Awards were also presented to fire services personnel for high attendance.
Later Mr. S.N. Singh, flagged off a convoy, which went round different parts of the township to create awareness about fire prevention among the general public. He also inaugurated an exhibition of various equipment and tools used in fire fighting.
It is noteworthy that the National Fire Services Day marks the beginning of the Fire Services Week. During the Fire Service Week celebrations, special awareness program on fire prevention and protection will be organized in different plant units, schools and various socio-cultural organizations.
