Bhubaneshwar : Finally, the people of Rourkela including the intellectuals from all the corners who have been stressing upon and urging for the location of proposed ESIC Medical College to be at Rourkela, are able to see the rays of hope and assurance.

Today under the leadership of Dr. Prafulla Majhi ( MLA , Talsara Constituency, Sundargarh ) about 6 MLAs from Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar met the Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik and appraised him about the discontent among the civil society and people at Rourkela and Sundargarh on the on going issue of locating the ESIC Medical College. After giving a calm hearing to the MLAs , Naveen Patnaik said, being ESIC Medical College is a central Govt. project, the State Govt. doesn’t have any problem if the ESIC Corporation decides this to be at Rourkela. The state will facilate accordingly and allocate the land. He further assured about checking the status of the project and do his best for Rourkela and its people. At the same time 20 representatives of people from the above districts, also handed over a memorandum for setting up ESIC Medical College and Hospital at Rourkela to the Chief Minister which he gladly accepted.

It is to note that, there has been a constant follow up, peaceful agitations including sending memorandum to various authorities by the intellectuals from all the corners since more than 6 months to reconsider the decision of locating ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Odisha and strategically at Rourkela. Being the number of IPs in the said Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur is highest, strategically Rourkela is the best location to host ESIC Medical College and Hospital, opined and agreed by everybody.

Previously, after a delegation of MPs and MLA from Rourkela and Sundargarh including Shri Hemananda Biswal met the Prime Minister and Central Labor Minister at New Delhi, they both had also assured the same and agreed for locating the ESIC Medical College at Rourkela based on the fact of maximum number of IPs in and around this area and looking forward towards the the state’s proposal about the new location.

Though it might be little early but still I would like to congrats Odisha Development Team ( Odia Samaja, USA ) , Rourkela Development Forum ( particularly Dillip, Mihir , Alok and Situn ) , Shri Sandip Dasverma ( who contributed immensely and who remained with us since beginning back in Sept. 2009 ), Shri Bishnu Mohanty ( Who played a key and vital role ) from Rourkela and all the MLAs and MPs from Sundargarh , Keonjhar, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur for constantly following up ( since last 6 months ) and remain persistent on this issue which could take everyone to this level today. I am also thankful to the civil society of Rourkela including various organization and association who supported unitedly this cause.

Now we have to watch for two things,

    1. A formal document released by ESIC Corporation New Delhi based on the assurance from the Labor Minister and Prime Minister.

    2. A formal proposal goes from Odisha State Govt. , for Rourkela as a location and expedite the process of allocating the land and completes other formalities as soon as possible.

Lets continue following up on this, until the above happens and ESIC construction truely begins at Rourkela. Until then lets not relax.
