RDF urged for Rourkela railway division under ECoR
Rourkela: In a memorandum to the Union Railway Minister, Prime Minister and state Chief Minister with other higher authorities of Government, the members of Rourkela Development Forum have urged for creation of a new East Coast Railway Division headquarter at Rourkela.Justifying the demand they have mentioned that Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Kendujhargarh districts of Odisha have been contributing lions share of the revenue generated by Chakradharpur Division of SER since long. Unfortunately the said region remain the most neglected in rail connectivity and facilities .
The mineral rich Chotanagpur plateau region popularly known as “Ruhr of India” comprises of the mineral rich Sundargarh, Kendujhargarh and Jharsuguda Districts of Odisha from where Iron Ore and other minerals are transported throughout the country. Further the region houses a number of heavy industries like Rourkela Steel Plant, OCL-Rajgangpur, Adhunik Metalliks, L&T- Kansbahal, Bhusan Steel and Power, Vedanta Alumina etc. which pays sizable amount to the railways for transportation of raw materials as well as finished products.
It is also mentioned that, out of the total 742 route kms. of Chakradharpur Division, 406 kms are located in the state of Odisha covering about 50 stations out of the total 87 stations under Chakradharpur Division. Only Sundargarh district generates about Rs 800 crores annually, which accounts for 40% of the total revenue generated by Chakradharpur Division. Similarly Jharsuguda is an emerging industrial hub with a number of operating mega projects, while a number of industries are in pipe line. Whereas Kendujhargarh is also famous for its innumerous mines.
The said region which is considered as one of the most backward pockets of the country with a huge tribal population, has been deprived of the basic railway infrastructure and this is considered as the biggest stumbling block in the development of the region and its principal urban center, Rourkela – Rajgangpur- Jharsuguda area. Lack of proper infrastructure and communication facilities also led the increase of naxalite activities in this region.
Even 10 percent of the total revenue generated are spent on this area while less number of trains, poor maintenance of stations, nil developmental activity, poor connectivity, zero railway projects, lack of proper health care etc, are some bright examples of railways apathetical attitude . Many times various organizations from Rourkela have raised vital issues with the higher authorities of South Eastern Railways, but all are in vain. Every time due to natural calamity or any insurgent activity, Rourkela has to bear the brunt as trains are either cancelled or diverted, as it is happening in case of Utkal and Samaleswari with no alternative arrangement since last May.
Talcher-Bimalagarh railway route which could have been a boon to the tribal districts of Sundargarh and Keonjhar also provide connectivity to Coastal Odisha, is being overlooked since 1885. Even now the funding is much less for this project and in the current rate it may take more than 20 years to be completed.
On the contrary, East Coast Railways has created a saga of success and development, since its establishment in 2003. The rapid growth of East Coast Railways can be judged by its excellent maintenance of even its low class stations, they further added.Currently Waltair (Visakhapatnam) Division of East Coast Railways considered to be developed as a new railway zone including the Andhra districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagram. Hence in the same justified manner, Rourkela Division should be constituted with the Odisha districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Jharsuguda, which will benefit more than 50 lakhs of people.
Rourkela-Biramitrapur,Rourkela-Nuagaon , Rourkela-Jaraikela ,Rourkela-Barsuan Mines Rourkela-Jharsuguda-Belpahar-Kotarila,Talcher-Bimalagarh,Bansapani-Bimalagarh, Kiriburu-Gua,Kiriburu-Bolanikhadan,Jharsuguda-Sundargarh-Talsara,Gua-Padapahar-Kendujhargarh are some of the routes that may be included in Rourkela Division.The vacant bungalows in Bondamunda can be used for activities of the new railway division and the ARM office at Bondamunda can be upgraded to DRM office. Rourkela has sufficient infrastructure and potential to be the headquarters of the new division, asserted the forum.

Please come forward n join this.
I appriciate the initiatives taken by RDF and greatful to rkladmn for posting this issue.
This is a good news in good time.The Railway poject will start on feb 2011. we should try to reach this news to concern Department.
RKL shouldn’t be neglected since long, Honourable Railway Minister must take personal attention towards this issue. At present RKL is also cutoff from Rajdhani, where as a trail of Rajdhani express was conducted in last year. where as presently there is no any train communicate with Rajdhani.
Rourkela is neglected in all fronts, trains are cancelled since longer periods and no alternatives have been made. There is very poor connecttivity to northern states of UP, bihar and new delhi. Also our station need to be upgraded , greenary has to be added, a food plaza must be there. Railway station welcomes each city, its front surroundings should be full of greenary.
What we should be concerned more is to see that Rourkela enjoys the development the way rest of Odisha is enjoying. Rail connectivity to Rourkela from metro’s and commercial centre’s should be increased.
Don’t see a good train to Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad or Chennai…If for this a new divisional headquarter is required, so be it….We’ll raise our voices for that !
we are raisinng our voices since long for making Rourkela a new division, but it always unheard by the railway authorities…. why is this happening???? Are our voices not that strong to penetrate the ears of the deafs sitting there?????
alredy i have discussed the matter with sarda nayak ,subrat tarei and chatra bjd neta aira mohanty,
they are going to organise a meeting in between these 2-3 days

ROURKELA: How justified is the demand to carve out a separate railway division at Rourkela under the East Coast Railway (ECoR)? Given the continuing neglect towards the infrastructure and passenger amenities over decades, the demand is gaining momentum. With apolitical and political outfits jumping on the bandwagon to seek separation of Rourkela from the Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway (SER), the Railway Ministry is likely to feel the heat ahead.
our honourable cm is not keen to establish railway division . If he would kindly look into matter then it would be easier.One time Economic blockade,will teach them a lesson.

between 1990 and 2007, Indian Railways added only about 960 km while China added 20,000 km. China plans to add another 40,000 km in the next 10 years while India is currently doing around 250-300 km n a year

This train should be extended to Rourkela as the time scedule will be perfect and the train will be at least carry people which is not happening while frm Sambalpur.Its run almost empty from Sambalpur.Whats the point to run the train from such a place when the destination dont have enough potential to run even half packed.I am not discouraging but starting the train from sambalpur just because its a division dont give any justification.Railways should look for the benifit of people and extend it to Rourkela if not Ranchi or Tata

Any idea when night ban on trains betwn Rourkela and Kharagpur will be withdrawn. Nowadays Ispat Exp is the last train to reach Howrah, therefore post 11:40 am there is no train to Kolkata for almost 18 hours. This is too bad. Then Rourkela must have a pair of intercity exp to Howrah.
there is no benefit of doing strike infront of rourkela rly station. If they really want there demand to be heard ,do infront of legislative assembly.then only our capital centric govt will listen.without state govt’s pressure it is not possible.
slap them on there face then they will take action
@pradyumna
when you dont know the phases and procedures of railway strike then why you are commenting like a mad man?
@pradipta
i m saying whatever is correct
i know what is happening in bhubaneswar.govt is putting pressure on khurda balangir railway line and other present under Eco r .but rourkela is neglected by them..
forget about this naveen govt,they will never send any good proposal for rourkela.so better option is economic blockade.that is the thing what i was saying but u ve got me wrong

Good one. Keep it up.
please look about agitation in talcher.rourkela demands same type of agitation
please dont mind dear pradyaumna
Who will agitate at Rourkela?
hardly anyone is interested in agitation
rourkela will must be a division instead of chakradharpur of SER.But we are always neglected by railway ministry, so what can naveen do?
@Samir Ranjan Mallick,
Naveen can do many. First and immediate ones are , to get the BPUT start functioning from Rourkela which he himself approved its location at Rourkela in 2002. Second get the ESIC M&H at Rourkela. Third take the proposal of SAIL Medical College and work with center. For now this much.
But unfortunately the Naveen doesn’t know where is Rourkela on the Map nor does it know how to Read “Rourklea” if it is not written in English. Our great odias have elected the great leaders so I am wishing best of luck to people of Odisha for that.
again sasta rajneeti????

ya our rkl rly stn should be converted in2 a new rly divison as it z the highest source of income to SE Railway
Roukela Station development is going on at snail’s pace. It seems chakradharpur Divisional authority has a feeling to finish the projects of Rourkela after completion of projects undertaken in jharkhand on the pretext that state government is not supporting them. Time has come for the people of Rourkela to raise their voice aunitedly gainst the stepmother attitude CKP devision.
