Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered a remarkable performance in the month of February, thereby notching up the best ever April-February performance, for any financial year since inception, in many key areas.

As per the source the Plant made 1,82,007 lakh tons of Hot Metal in February by utilizing 118.6 % of its capacity which was the best February (28 days) performance, while the Plate Mill rolled 40244 tons of Plates using 175.5% of its capacity, which was again the highest for any February. In the said month, the Steel plant registered growth of 9.6%, 11.7%, 11%, 15.4%, 200.8% and 20.2% over February 2009 in the production of Sinter, Hot Metal, Total Crude Steel, Plate Mill Plates, ERW Pipes and Spiral Weld Pipes respectively. The best ever monthly coke rate of 527 kg per ton of hot metal was another highlight of the month of February 2010. One more noteworthy achievement of the Plant was in the field of converter lining life in SMS-II, where a lining life of 5559 heats was registered in one of the converters, which is the best ever performance in the history of RSP.

All these have propelled the April-Feb performance of the Plant significantly and the Steel Plant registered the best ever first eleven months performance in Hot Metal (2060658 T), Total Crude Steel (19,34,731 T) and HR coil for sale (6,92,260 T). The growth over the corresponding period of 2008-09 has been 3.8% in production of Sinter, 2.3 % in Hot Metal, 1.4% in Crude Steel, 3.4% in HR coil total, 6.5% in CR sheets and coils, 1.7 % in Galvanized sheets and 3.2% in CRNO. Besides, in the field of techno- economics, the coke rate of 535 kg per ton of hot metal, average Blast Furnace productivity of 1.414 tons per metre cube per day, coal to hot metal ratio of 0.974 and specific energy consumption of 6.990 Giga Calorie per ton of Crude Steel are the best ever figures achieved by the steel plant in the April-February period of any fiscal.
