The Blast Furnace -5 shell erection was inaugurated by Mr. S.N. Singh, Managing Director, RSP. The first BF shell was lifted to position before the Managing Director and a number of senior officers and employees. The shell erection marks the beginning of another phase in the construction of the fifth blast furnace at RSP. It may be noted that the Civil Work for Blast Furnace – 5 started on 14th January, 2009 while the Blast Furnace foundation and civil work for its peripheral Wall was completed on 10th March, 2010.
The new blast furnace will have 4060 meter cube of Useful Volume with an average production capacity of 7924 Tons/day. The annual production capacity of this furnace will be 2.8MT/year which will increase the existing capacity of Hot Metal production to 4.5 MT/year. The furnace equipped with modern features such as Pulverized Coal Injection System, Cast House Fume Extraction System, Cast House Slag Granulation System, Top Gas recovery Turbine of 124 MW capacity, Twin Material Bin BLT system, Torpedo Ladle Cars of Capacity 350 Tons each, Waste Heat Recovery System, Plate, Stave Coolers, Conveyor Belt Charging System, one twin strand Pig Casting Machine of 1500 TPD. Besides, the furnace will operate on Level-II Automation and coke rate with a minimum level of 360 kg/Ton of Hot Metal. All the Executive Directors, senior officers of projects department and Blast Furnaces were present on the occasion. It is noteworthy that the erection is being supervised by foreign expert from M/s Danielli Corus along with experts from M/s Tata Projects Limited while MECON is providing Designer’s supervision.
